With the recent release of CLENotes, the story that began over ten years ago continues. In my post about the history of CLENotes, I contemplated about the future and I already then thought of developing the next version using a new language. At the time, I thought about Scala, Clojure, Groovy or Ruby but then decided on Xtend and happily it proved to be a good choice.
The new version of CLENotes starts a new chapter in the story of CLENotes and the story will continue in the foreseeable future. The basic functionality of providing command line access to IBM Notes email is pretty much finished. CLENotes is mostly in maintenance mode and I intend to fix major bugs and maybe even minor bugs too. Sometimes, of course, bugs are not bugs but features 🙂
I thought of adding new features to CLENotes v5, but decided against it because what I had in mind were related to IBM Notes as a whole and not just email. Functionality included listing of all databases in Notes and their properties, viewing documents and so on. These kind of new features would take CLENotes away from just being an email client to be more like generic command line Notes client.
